How do I know if I need mold testing?
When most people think of mold, they think of black mold growing on the walls. And that’s certainly the easiest way to tell you have a mold problem.
What most property owners don’t realize is that mold isn’t always visible.
This toxic little organism often hides deep inside walls, under flooring, in our laundry, on our furniture, and in many other places we may not think about.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you only need mold testing if you see obvious, visible mold.
So how do you know if you need mold testing?
Does something smell off?
Many types of mold will give off a noticeable, musty odor. That means the air you and your family are breathing is potently toxic.
If you notice a persistent smell in your home, it’s time to get a mold test.
Have you been sneezing and coughing more than usual?
These may be symptoms of mold exposure. Other symptoms can include skin irritation, congestion and other allergic reactions.
For the sake of your health, get mold testing if you or your family are suffering from any of these symptoms.
Does your home have signs of water damage?
Mold thrives in moist, humid environments. Water damage may lead to mold growth if not dealt with properly.
If you see water stains, cracked or peeling wallpaper, discoloration or other signs of water damage, there’s a high chance hidden mold exists as well.
